Thankfully Nourished Gelatin

Product Description

Thankfully Nourished Gelatin is a beautiful example of an Aussie homegrown and manufactured product.

None of this sourced from Brazil business. Although to keep it real, companies source from Brazil as it is the only region with enough grassland to ensure a 100% grass fed pasture raised end product. The cost however is the Amazon Forest of which massive tracts are bulldozed for cattle grazing and so much wildlife displaced.

Australia simply does not have enough pasture raised cattle, let alone organic to produce a certified pasture raised Gelatin or Collagen. To the best of our knowledge there is no one yet making Australian Gelatin or Collagen that is 100% grass-fed and grass-finished despite what they may claim.

Thankfully Nourished Gelatin is derived from the hides of Australian beef cattle that are free range and 100% grass fed for the duration of their life on the farm. Grains are not a part of their diet at all. Under this broader definition, it is “grass finished”. However, to be absolutely strict on the claim “grass finished” it means the cattle are not to be fed grains ever.

The journey cattle take from the farm to the abattoir may be a few days and in that time they are very likely to be fed some GMO-free grain since they are not grazing and they need to eat! This doesn’t affect the quality of the finished gelatin in any way. However, in order to be absolutely transparent, because there is that small window of time not on grass, Thankfully Nourished do not claim grass-finished.

Thankfully Nourished Gelatin is:

  • Sourced from grass-fed, free range Australian cattle, processed in NSW

Important note regarding the presence of sulphites in both collagen and gelatin as we know some individuals are sensitive. In the process of making gelatin, sulphites are produced. It is not possible to produce beef gelatin without this process.Thankfully Nourished certificates of analysis confirms there is only 18mg/kg. However when substances containing sulphites are both in an aqueous environment and acidic environment (eg. orange juice) then some of the sulphites will be converted to sulphur dioxide and water.

Some companies may add sulphites as a preservative, but in Thankfully Nourished gelatin and collagen there are no sulphites added. Some companies (Wine manufactures especially) add sulphur dioxide to the final packaging before sealing to act as a biocide to prevent spoilage, Thankfully Nourished does not use this process in packaging.

Do You need to ‘bloom’ gelatin powder?

A question we often get asked is how to correctly ‘bloom’ gelatin powder for recipes. Incorrectly bloomed gelatin may impact the quality of the recipe outcome you wish to achieve. Blooming gelatin is a very easy step in using gelatin, and only takes a minute to complete.

For a simple homemade jelly follow the following steps-

1. In a small bowl or cup take 1 tablespoon of Thankfully Nourished Gelatin powder, add 200ml of cool water/liquid and stir well.

2. Allow the mixture to sit for at least one minute. In this time the gelatin powder will absorb the liquid until the mixture becomes quite firm. Then you can either heat this liquid to cook the gelatin or stir your bloomed gelatin into sauces, smoothies etc.

Liquids that are great choices to use are fresh squeezed juices, coconut water, coconut cream, almond milk. Don’t use pineapple juice as the enzymes in this fruit will not allow the gelatin to set.
